Immigration to Thiland

A visa to Thailand can be obtained from the Thai Embassy or Consulate located in your country. It is valid for 90 days. If you intend staying in Thailand for a year, then there are two ways to apply for the same.

1. An applicant needs to submit the form for a non-immigrant visa at a Thai Embassy or Consulate. The form will be sent to the Immigration Bureau in Thailand.

2. A company in Thailand that wishes to employ people from other countries, needs to submit an application to the Immigration Bureau, in the Immigration Division

APPLYING FOR A RE-ENTRY PERMIT
If a candidate wishes to travel to Thailand before the expiry of the Visa, he needs to apply for a re-entry permit. A re-entry permit allows you to re-enter the Kingdom and use the time remaining on your visa. In case you have not applied for the re-entry permit, the visa will automatically be cancelled even if it has not expired.

Requirements:
1. Passport and travel documents
2. A 4x6 cm Photograph
3. Application Form T.M. 8
4. 500 Bath fee per application. A re-entry permit may be obtained several times.

APPLYING FOR PERMANENT RESIDENCE
The Immigration Bureau receives applications for permanent residence. This is open to people with non-immigrant visas who have resided in Thailand for over a period of three years. They are eligible to apply for permanent residency.

Procedures for Lost Passport
In case of loss or theft of passport after reaching Thailand, one needs to do the following:

File a report at the local Police Station in the area where passport was lost or stolen.
The police report should be brought to your embassy or consulate. If your local embassy is not there, then please contact the Passport Division of Mini Affairs.
Bring your new passport or substitute document to the I Bureau to have your visa visit division 4, Immigration Bureau, Floor, Old Building, Te1287-3911 or 287-3101-10 Ext. 22

Fines for Over-Staying Visas
According to Section 81 of "Immigration Act, B.E. 2522 (1979)", people who overstay their visas and voluntarily report this to the Immigration Bureau, will be fined 100 bath for each day. You cannot overstay more than 200 days.

In the Central/Bangkok Area : Investigation Unit, Immigration Bureau, Room 416, 4th Floor, Old Building, Tel. 287-312 or 287-3101 Ext. 2204-9 or at the Bangkok International Airport Departure Section on the alien's departure from the Kingdom.

For provincial areas: All Immigration Checkpoints on the alien's departure from the Kingdom.
