ShoppingPune is situated in the rain shadow region of the western ghats & is located on the deccan plateau. Thus the combination of aridity and relative altitude makes for an equable climate without large fluctuation.
Temperatures:
Summers tend to be hot with temperatures reaching over 35° C sometimes.
Winters are bracing but the minimum temperature rarely fills below 18°
C. Woollens are needed only for a couple of months.
The average daytime "room temperature" is around 28° C.
The rainfall during the monsoons is intermittent.
Air Travel: Air travellers arrive at Lohgaon airport, which is 12 km from the city. Tourist taxis to the city cost about Rs 150 to Rs 200. But most passengers prefer to use autorickshaws.
Road Travel: Pune roads are kept in good condition. The traffic is steadily increasing, accidents are becoming common and jams have also made their entry. Most people use two wheelers to commute. The traffic police strictly enforce helmet wearing rules.
Road: The government run bus transport system is well developed and the buses are well maintained. Taxicabs are not common but taxi-autorickshaws are found everywhere. The Pune autorickshaw drivers don't haggle or ask for more, unlike in many other Indian cities. Larger sized autorickshaws seating six are competing (successfuly) with buses and they are quite inexpensive.
Rail Travel: There are three main railway stations in Pune, all on the same east-west line. The main one is Pune. Shivaji Nagar and Khadki are the other ones. Shuttle services (electric motorised units) run every hour between Pune and Lonavla to the west, towards Mumbai, serving the needs of industrial suburbs like Pimpri, Chinchwad and Dehu Road. Towards the east, people regularly commute up to Uruli by 4 shuttles a day.
