ZoneAlarm 2.1
This firewall has received a fair amount of user and reviewer acclaim. Available in three versions: Pro, Standard and Free (for personal use). ZoneAlarm is very easy to install and configure with two sliders that control most settings. There is also an Advanced button for network settings. ZoneAlarm now contains a MailSafe feature that protects your system from viruses like "ILove You," written in Visual Basic Script.

Another excellent firewall, this is available in Corporate, Home and B2B versions. The ICE (Intrusion Countermeasure Enhancements)pac Corporate Suite protects everything from e-commerce servers to VPN users. BlackICE is designed for stand-alone PCs. And unlike classic firewalls, it is dynamic; watching for, and defending against, hack attacks. It changes its degree of vigilance and security strategy depending on what's coming into your PC through the Internet.

Hack Tracer v1.2
With this utility you can secures your PC from attacks from any device on the Internet, LAN, or WAN. Hack Tracer enables a barrier to protect the system by denying access to all except authorised users. Access is enabled by IP address of the originating host. A tray icon shows the program state. When a port is accessed the icon flashes to update you that the event was prevented and logged. Single-clicking a logged event displays the details. Double-clicking launches the included NeoTrace Express to trace route to the originating host. Once traced, all host information is available including registered owner, network information, and physical street address. This program is restricted to Windows 95/98 and as yet doesn't support Windows NT/2000 or ME.
