Australian--Student
visa
All
persons other than Australian and New Zealand citizens need a valid visa
for travel to Australia which must be applied for before the journey commences.
Student visa holders may apply for work rights in Australia, to allow
them to work up to 20 hours per week during the semester/school term.
How
do I apply?
Student visas can be applied for direct at this office or through a student
agent. The Australian International Education Foundation on level 2 of
the Australian High Commission will be able to provide a list of student
agents upon request. Non-Malaysian nationals should contact the Visa Section
of the Australian High Commission for further information or call (03)
246 5642 from 1.30pm to 3.30pm weekday afternoons except Wednesdays and
public holidays.
Malaysian
nationals who wish to apply for a student visa to Australia will need
to submit the following:
o A completed visa application (form 157Y)
available at this office or from a student agent.
o Confirmation of enrolment, fully completed,
from the educational institution in Australia upon lodgement of your application.
o Visa application fee (currently RM762.00)
is payable upon lodgement of your application. See Types of Visas &
Fees.
o Applicants under the age of 18 years, must
provide a consent letter stating both parents' full names and signed by
both parents.
o Medical Examination · Valid passport
with at least one full blank page for the visa label. Medical examination
and Health Cover is mandatory Applicants are required to undergo a medical
examination with an appointed panel doctor. A list of panel doctors and
medical examination forms are attached to the visa application form. Three
passport size photographs of the applicant are required. Medical forms
and X-ray reports must be returned to this office in a sealed envelope
upon lodgement of an application. It is mandatory to hold the Overseas
Students Health Cover and ensure that you pay the Overseas Student Health
Charge. Your Confirmation of Enrolment should show that you hold acceptable
cover.
What
about dependants?
Dependants may accompany students and may apply for a visa on the same
application form (non-Malaysians should enquire at the Visa section).
Applicants should provide a set of passport size photographs for each
dependant as well as a marriage certificate and children's birth certificate
if applicable. Dependants must also undergo a medical examination and
hold health cover. Dependants aged between 5 and 18 must be enrolled in
an educational institution in Australia and evidence of a confirmation
of enrolment must be submitted upon lodgement of the application.
