Q: Its really helpful reading your solutions. I cannot hear any music on any of the e-cards which I previously used to. A few days ago I closed the computer without properly shutting it down. Is this the cause for the damage? Please help me.

A: Is all Windows sound stopped. Or other that for e-cards. We need more information before we can correctly diagnose the problem.

Q: I would like to know from where to download Borland or Turbo C++ 4.5 or higher. I used to work with Borland 4.5, but it didn't support graphics under Windows. Is there any way to activate graphics?

A: You can download some version of Borland software from http://www.inprise.com/downloads/ and http://community.borland.com/ (registration required). We found that Turbo C++ supports graphics, however the answer is too detailed for this column. We recommend you search the Web using Google.com.

Q:I have a P IIII (sic) with 64 MB RAM running Win98. MS Word is not showing any toolbars. I just have a Close and Restore buttons on my top right of the screen. I don't even have the File, Edit, View menus. I had deleted the whole of Office 2000, loaded Office 97 and later reloaded Office 2000. But nothing works.

A: Its possible you have a virus on your PC. Please check. But deleting an Office installation will not resolve the problem. You need to uninstall Office using the correct procedure, then restart your system. Next delete all Office-related files (c:\Program Files\Office). Restart once again. And then re-install the Suite.

Q:On Win2K, when I start/restart the PC, the System32 folder pops up most of the time. But my Startup folder is empty. When I installed Win2K, it created a built-in user named Administrator. I created an account for myself with administrator access. The problem is when I try to make a log-in password for myself, it says "You do not have permission to change your password". When I try this after logging in as Administrator, it says, "You cannot change password for..." with an inactive Set Password button. How can I set a password for myself?

A: Did you shut down with the Systemn32 folder open. Close it and try again. To resolve the user ID problem, login as Administrator. Then create a new user account called "fixtrouble" from the New User dialog. Here make sure to deselect "User must change password..." and "Password never expires." And assign "fixtrouble" administrative rights. Next disable your existing user ID and rename it "defective." Then right click "fixtrouble" and rename it to your name.
