Mumbai
EDUCATION
Mumbai
has probably the best educational facilities in India. There
are hundreds of good schools. Given the general work-oriented
ethos of Mumbai, elite "public" schools are few . Most old schools
are run by various Catholic missions and they do a very good
job too.
Schools
: A few of the top Schools are :
Boys - Campion, Don Bosco ( Matunga ),
St.Mary's ( Byculla ),
St.Stanislaus ( Bandra ).
Girls - J.B.Wacha Wadia, J.B.Petit, Alexandria, Gloria Convent.
Co-Ed - Bombay Scottish, Utpal Sanghvi, Green Lawns, G.D.Somani,
King George, Balmohan Vidyamandir.
Many
relocators' children would be studying in CBSE syllabus like
Central schools. Here's a list of some of them in Mumbai.

Colleges:
There are many good colleges all over the city. While there
are a few prestigious colleges like Ruia, Sydenham, Ruparel,
St.Xaviers, Narsee Monjee, Poddar, Jai Hind and others, the
practical Mumbai student nowadays prefers to join a reasonably
good one close to home as it saves a lot of time commuting.
There
is a very large choice of professional courses available.
Difficulties
in procuring admission: Since most parents are keen to admit
their kids to the best possible schools, donations could reach
astronomical figures of upto 2.5 Lakhs. Preference for admissions
is generally given to students who are residing in the local
areas. Admission fees are normally accepted under the guise
of funds for school building construction. Schools open in mid-June,
but admission procedures begin as early as February.
Tentative
exam times: Mid-term exams are held around the 3rd week of October
followed by Diwali vacations, while Final exams are held in
the last week of March and are followed by 2 months of summer
vacation.
