The Logistics Institute – Asia-Pacific ( TLI-AP ), a partnership between the National University of Singapore ( NUS ) and Georgia Institute of Technology ( Georgia Tech ) focusing on research and education in Logistics was officially launched on 24 July 2001.
Speaking at the official opening ceremony, Brigadier-General ( NS ) George Yeo, Minister for Trade and Industry said, “It is the logistics revolution which has made possible the globalization that we see today. For Singapore to continue playing the role of a global hub in Asia, we must keep upgrading our logistics infrastructure, both the hardware and software. We need knowledge, we need to understand new trends and we need to train the human resources.”
He further explained that Singapore could only reach international standards by working in partnership with global centers of excellence, such as Georgia Institute of Technology.
Professor Jean-Lou Chameau, Georgia Tech’s Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs, expressed his excitement on its collaboration with NUS. He added “These cooperative efforts will further strengthen Singapore’s outstanding logistics infrastructure, firmly securing the city’s position as the gateway to Southeast Asia.”
Professor Shih Choon Fong, Vice-Chancellor of NUS also shared his excitement on this partnership. He remarked that TLI-AP would provide a natural platform for NUS faculty and students from different disciplines to address common research issues. Through a multi-disciplinary approach, TLI-AP reinforces NUS’ plan in becoming a global knowledge enterprise.
The ceremony also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding ( MOU ) between the Institute and Singapore Aviation Academy (
