Education
wise, in Pune the "bhatji" tradition ( brahmanical tradition
of study) is very strong here and learning is respected. So
regardless of origins or prejudices, the majority of students
generally develop brahmanoid traits and do very well in academics.
They also have time to develop interests in other fields like
sports as well. This makes for well rounded personalities and
corporate recruiters and head hunters usually appreciate Pune
candidates.
Schools:
Schools in Pune are of good quality. The syllabi followed are
CBSE, ICSE and State (SSC). Schools usually start in June. The
final exams conclude by the 1st week of April. Admission procedures
begin as early as November.
A
few representative schools: St. Mary's, Nutan Marathi Vidyalaya,
SSPMS, St. Xaviers, and several Central Schools.
Higher
Education: Pune University, Bharati Vidyapeeth. Some good
colleges are Fergusson, SP College.
Engineering
and medicine: An entrance test has to be taken. Seats all
over the state are allotted on the basis of these results. There
is a quota for candidates hailing from other states. The MCA course
of Pune University is well thought of. The Symbiosis Institute
of Management is steadily gaining ground as a premier institution.
The Virology Institute serves most of South India. There are several
defence establishments like NDA.
