EDUCATION
Calcutta
has excellent educational facilities.
Schools:The
ISCE syllabus is followed in schools like Loreto house, La Martiniere,
St.Xaviers. CBSE syllabus in schools like BD Memorial School and
Hindi High School. The Madhyamik (state syllabus) is followed
in Don Bosco, St.Lawrence, Modern High.
Admissions:
For the large and reputed schools, admissions are very difficult
to get. Applications begin from age 2 years. Final exams are usually
in March - April. Donations also are required, ranging from 20,000
to 1 lakh. (!!)
Colleges:
The usual arts, science and commerce streams are available. The
University of Calcutta is one of the oldest in the country.
