Hyderabad
EDUCATION
Schools:
Since the last seven years or so there's a shortage of schools
in Hyderabad. Consequently the good ones are much sought after.
Usually donations are asked for in such schools ranging from
2000 upwards. The syllabi followed are CBSE and AP State.
A
few representative schools: Hyderabad Public School: syllabus
- at Begumpet. Apart from a 75 year old tradition this school
has excellent facilities and teaching staff. Difficult to get
admission. Some other well known schools are All Saints', Little
Flower, St.Ann's, St. Mary's.There are several new schools which
boast of all modern facilities.
Higher
education: Osmania University, Central University, JN Technological
University are reputed universities based at Hyderabad.
Engineering
and Medicine: For professional
courses, an entrance test called EAMCET has to be taken.Seats
all over the state are allotted on the basis of the results.
There is a quota for candidates hailing from other states.Competition
is fierce.
Post
graduate courses in computers like MCA are also very popular
and also require an entrance exam. Recently some newer MSc courses
have been started. It appears most institutes of repute in this
city are oriented towards courses in Computers, and some are
very reputed. The Indian Institute of Information Technology
in a sprawling campus is similar to the IITs. A large Business
school of global standards also is coming up in Hyderabad. (See
www.iit.net for details).
There
are a huge number of institutes in the non formal but organised
sector which teach various IT subjects. Students here flock
to institutes on the strength of the teacher, not the name of
the institute.
