Chennai
PLACES
TO STAY IN CHENNAI
Business
locations: Business locations are quite
spread out compared to other metros. The old business district
is to the north , but the newer commercial areas are strung all
along the long arterial Anna Salai road. Newer developments are
more oriented towards IT , for instance software technology parks
in the southern suburbs of the city.
New
areas developed on the west are well planned. Heavy industry has
shifted away from Chennai. The port is still the largest on the
east coast of India. Most large public sector companies like ONGC
have their regional headquarters in Chennai.
Land
real estate prices have begun their upward spiral but not as rapidly
as in Bangalore or Mumbai. Tidy well planned development "nagars"
are comfortable to live in. Chennai adheres to sensible plans
and the city has expanded without going out of control like, maybe
Mumbai.
Transit
accommodation: Chennai has several hotels to suit all budgets.
The average tariff for a three star hotel works out to Rs.1200-2000
a day, and many hotels close to the center of the city are available
for Rs.500-1000 per day. The high end hotels are 5 star ones like
Park Sheraton, Taj Coromandel and Chola Sheraton.
There
are also several hotels for budget travelers and students like
YMCA and YWCA.
