Road:
Chennai roads are broad and well kept. People generally use buses,
suburban train, autorickshaws, cars and two wheelers. Commuting
distances on an average are about 20 km. The bus system is said
to be the most efficient in India. The fares range from Rs 2 to
Rs 6. Taxis and autorickshaws run by the meter and fares are thus
fixed by the government. The autorickshaw drivers need firm handling.
Illustrative costs for fuel--petrol Rs 29 per litre: Diesel Rs
16 per liter.(rounded off). Repairing a car puncture costs about
Rs 25 -30. Two wheeler puncture repair about Rs.20-25. Chennai
traffic police are no different from traffic police anywhere else.
