Work
Permit:
In
United Kingdom, like the rest of the countries, employers apply
for work permit. However, there are two major conditions that must
be fulfilled.
- The job in question
must be of certain skill level, for instance, managerial, professional
or senior technical posts.
- The employer has
tried to fill the place with local labour force, but due to the
absence of the required skills, work force from overseas is being
called.
A
work permit application normally takes between four to eight weeks
to process depending on the type and other factors. The work permit
issued usually has a validity period of 12, 36 or 48 months after
which, the employer must apply for an extension. An extension application
states how long the person will be needed for and why. The employer
may be required to explain why they have not recruited a resident
worker to fill the position during the intervening period.
The work permit is granted to a particular employer and the employee
cannot employment in U.K without applying for a fresh work permit.
